Army overruns LTTE bunker line amidst heavy resistance Soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army yesterday overran a key LTTE bunker line at Palleikuli amidst heavy resistance by the tigers. Government to pull out from the Ceasefire agreement

The Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) has decided to pull out of the cease-fire agreement (CFA) with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The move, when implemented, would mark the official end of the nearly 5 year long agreement which has been in tatters since mid 2003.

Blast near Slave Island

A bus transporting military personnel was hit by a suspected roadside claymore explosion at 9.35 AM today morning killing 4 and injuring 24. 14 civilians and 10 Sri Lanka Army (SLA) personnel are among the wounded. The military bus, another private bus and a three wheeler are among the vehicles damaged in the incident. Buildings belonging to the nearby Hotel Nippon too has received some damage due to the explosion.

T.Maheshwaran shot dead

T.Maheshwaran shot dead

United National Party lawmaker T. Maheshwaran was shot dead by unidentified gunmen near the Shivam Kovil in Kotahena today (1st) at 10 A.M. Mr Maheshwaran who received critical gunshot wounds was rushed to the Colombo hospital. However he succumbed to his injuries approximately half an hour later. Another person who was with the parliamentarian at the time of shooting too has been seriously injured in the incident.

Fighting reported in Mannar

Soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) today captured the North Western part of Narikkulam region after a fierce firefight with Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) who previously controlled the territory. Heavy sea battle south of Delft

The sea going arm of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) were locked in a fierce battle off the seas south of Delft for nearly two hours from 12.45PM to 2.30PM today (26th). Both parties have suffered heavy casualties in the firefight with SLN losing 1 Dvora vessel and the sea tigers losing 4 of their attack crafts plus two suicide boats.

Prabhakaran limits public appearances

On the 16th of this month, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam opened what it said was an Elder's Home in Kilinochchi. Usually, these types of events are inaugurated by LTTE leader Velupillei Prabhakaran. In this instance however, it was his Wife Mathivathani who attended the event. Explosion near Kanthale railway station

An explosion has occurred 500m away from the Railway station at Kanthale. Unconfirmed reports suggest that a claymore mine has been detonated targeting the Trincomalee-Kandy train. At least One civilian is said to be wounded in the incident. Engine of the train has also been slightly damaged.

Border villages in Monaragala district threatened by LTTE activity

It is now a well known fact that a group of LTTE cadres managed to infiltrate into Yala sanctuary after their bases in Vakarai region fell to the SLA's Special Forces.
